Engineering seismology serves as the foundation for calculating seismic hazard, developing reliable ground motion mitigation models, and creating detailed geological underground models pertaining to earthquake mitigation. While the emphasis used to be on post-earthquake actions in the past, the focus has now shifted increasingly towards prevention. This includes implementing measures designed to mitigate risks. With this objective in mind, engineering seismology strives to establish the necessary foundations and methods for assessing site-specific seismic hazards.
